Default Missed first episode of "Life on Mars" ?????
What do I need to know about the detective guy?
Help please ,as I cannot get the overall scheme of things except that it is a detective programme set in the 70's!

detective... loses girlfriend, goes to investigate gf missing, upset,, drives away.. stops at side of road and gets out of car.. bang .. accident... wakes up in 1973
