Talking Cooking a Valentine meal - give me your suggestions

OK budding chefs, what are you cooking tonight?

Reccommend me a simple recipe that a relative novice can manage!

Starter / main course

Cannot contain beef or lamb, ingredients must be available from Sainsburys or waitrose, you know - the ones on the way home from work

cheers

Y'know, I hunter-gathered fish n'chips last night - yet I'm expected to cook tonight. Again!

I've already cooked for her once this month already but oh no, not good enough apparently

I'm doing locally reared (Herefordshire) rump steak, with seasoned pom frites, along with side order of local veg, and a home-made peppercorn sauce.

Starter will be homecooked saesoned garlic dough ***** with a garlic mayonnaise

Desert will be Corvoisier-laced cream with profiteroles adn chocolate sauce.

Got a nice bottle of champers too.

Oh and wifey's working until 10pm

Fajitas and Nachos are good for a pre-****, errrr, romantic meal. Nothing like a bit of hot sauce and finger food, if you know what I mean

Fajita ingredients:

two medium-sized chicken breasts
one large onion
yellow & orange peppers
couple of limes
Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire sauce
'Discovery' brand tortilla wraps
Old El Paso hot salsa

For the accessories (nachos and guacamole):

2x ripe avocados
2x spring onions
'Discovery' brand Jalapeno peppers
Bag of tortilla chips
Cheddar cheese

Cut avocados in half, remove stone, scoop out flesh and mash with fork, adding juice of half a lime until smooth. Finely slice spring onions and mix in. Cover with cling film and put in fridge.

Grate cheese and sprinkle over tortilla chips on a dish / plate. Top with Jalapenos. Put in oven at 150 C for 10 mins.

Thinly slice the onions, peppers, chicken and fry in a tablespoon of oil on a high heat, adding black pepper to taste. When the peppers and onions are just starting to scorch a bit, and the chicken's cooked, squeeze in half a lime and 2x tablespoons of Lea & Perrins. Stir until the liquid is almost gone, then put it all in a bowl.

Serve it all up, make tortillas with guac, salsa and meat mix. Have ****

Starter:

Guacamole dip with Tiger Prawns.

Get a couple of ripe avocados, take the stones out and mix with some cream, cayenne, lemon, pepper and a bit of salt. Head and tails the prawns and lightly fry them in butter until they change colour. Prep time: Five minutes maybe.

Whack that lot in the fridge for as long as possible. Women like this sort of 'sharing' type food and puts them in the right frame of mind for some bedroom restling later on.

Ginger Chicken.

Get a couple of chicken breasts and lightly fry them for a couple of minutes and then put them in a baking dish in the oven for ten minutes. Meanwhile, get some garlic, clear honey, soy sauce and fresh ginger and mix them all together having grated the ginger previously. Pour this over the chicken and bake for a further ten minutes, basting regularly. I'd steam some potatoes and carrots as an accompaniment. Prep time: 25 minutes including cooking.

Pour some vino down her neck to guarantee some leg over action. Job done.

You forgot - Wash hands a lot as I've seen what happens when chili fingers are involved in "finger food" - she'll never forgive you.....

A great starter which is very simple is: -

One saute pan
One large **** of butter
One birds eye chilli finely chopped
200gms of tiger prawn tails with shells on
Juice of one lime
Small glass of dry white martini/vermouth
One loaf of crusty french bread

Put everything except the bread in the pan on the heat (if you are fussy you could add the prawns after all the other liquids have heated up and the butter melted).

Wait for the prawns to go completely pink - turn them over a few times to make sure - it should take 3-4 mins.

Serve in the pan with bits of bread. Eat with fingers (have a finger bowl and a shell bowl for bits).

Dip bread in liquid.

A very sharing, simple and delicious starter

Tonight I will be cooking:

Starter - Scallops with a rocket salad

Scallops only need about 1 minute on each side in a hot pan, or else they turn to rubber.

Main - Honey Duck Breast served with roast baby potatoes and steamed sugar snap peas.

Heat pan, put honey in pan, allow to bubble, get duck breast in skin side down, when it has some colour, then place in the oven skin side up.

Dessert - Chocolate coated strawberries

Melt chocolate in a bowl over a pan of boiling water, once melted allow to cool slightly, then holding a strawberry by the stalk coat the outside in chocolate. Place on greaseproof paper, allow to cool, then leave in fridge.

Order to cook:
1) Do the desert first and leave in fridge.
2) Get potatoes in oven
3) Cook duck
4) Prepare salad for starter
5) Cook scallops
6) Eat starter
7) Steam sugar snap peas
8) Get main together and eat main course
9) Desert out of fridge
10) Get disturbed by daughter waking up!
