HAVE YOU BEEN THE VICTIM OF CRIME?

BBC Television is making a series about the Parole Board – the people who decide whether to release an offender early from prison.

We want to include the views of victims of crime.

What was your experience?

How were you affected?

What issues do you think are important?

yup,

car broken into, motorbike stolen,

on the latter, despite evading arrest, and being caught, his brief span some **** and bull about being stranded and he nicked my bike to get home, he got 60hrs com service, and i had the bike written off and lost my ncb..

mind you i was warned not to hit him when i went to collect my bike, he was hiding in bushes and the dog got him as we were pulling up,,, the copper obviously saw i was going to go for it, and warned me not to, shame, i reckoned he would have looked good with a few well aimed twots with a crash helmet

I'd like to have seen the criminals I've had run ins with make it to the inside of a Police cell never mind a proper prison before I worry about parole.

Thumbs up

A child molester received early release, over here.
He died a short time later.
Became a homicide victim.
Should have stayed in the cross bar hotel.
Evidently, for him, it was more safe.
Who ever contributed to his demise is still about.
Shocking!

Got my first car broken into when I went into town in it shopping. Both locks done over and rear window smashed, the nicked an amp which I'd just fitted.

Couldve been worse - I did take the headunit pop-off with me, so they didnt get the stereo, but the sinking feeling you get when you go back to the car and see its been broken into is horrible.

Only had two cars nicked, both when I was young and 3rd Party insurance was all I could afford.

C865AWR - MG Metro Turbo. Nicked by a gang from Toxteth, Police saw it pull up but waited till they had turned it into a Cabriolet before they moved in

SFM406K - Deseamed Mini 1000. Quite a cool car, nicked, never found.

Asif, your title is misleading. Many people have been the victim of crime - far fewer have seen the offender go to jail.

I got lit petrol on the front door and a knife at my throat - ****** never even went to court due to "lack of evidence".

Sorry Brendan, just a copy and paste from an email.

To elaborate, what they want are people who have been victims if crime, willing to go on camera.

Because the mainstay of the programme will be about people coming up for parole, they are hoping to be able to, shall we say, highlight the other side too, to try to bring some balance.

The stories will be human interest and MAY generate sympathy for the crims. Some footage of some victims, talking about what happened to them should balance things out.

I believe they would like some people who have suffered serious crime, GBH and such like. I believe they want victims of the same crime that the particular parolee would have committed.

If so, they wouldn't necessarily have had to have seen 'their' offender go to jail.

Hope this clarifies. Let me say that what I have typed here is my own take on it, therefore maybe inaccurate. If you (or anyone else) want the full facts then please call the number.

I am privy to a lot of future documentaries on the Beeb (and have been used to test some) so if anyone can think of a good Subaru related, human interest, observational/fly on the wall type documentary idea AND want to get on the telly, let me know. I can put you in touch with someone who could make it a reality.

I mean this. My involvement would be no more than what I have said here. Would be between you and the documentary maker. If they like it, they will make it, nothing to do with me...

Perhaps a new thread?
