Career change: Customs Officer

Career change: Customs Officer
Im thinking of changing careers. I currently work in production and think I will be stuck in this position for a while. The money is good but the job is not very varied.
I quite fancy the idea of being a Customs Officer, I live in Hull and they have a big port there so there should be jobs, however I do not mind traveling.
Could anyone who is a Customs Officer or knows about the career shed some light on the job and entry requirements as the civil service website is a bit vague.
TIA
Scott

Customs Officers' starting pay is terrible.
I'm not sure what they start on at present but a frind of mine looked into it about 6 years ago when he was leaving the RAF, and starting pay was a shade under £10k.

I think the starting salary was up to a whopping £12k around that time.
