Default Safety Camera Partnerships

Interesting question about their democratic accountability, the answer seems to be that they aren't accountable at all:

Mrs. Spelman: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport to which elected bodies the Safety Camera Partnerships are accountable in two-tier local government areas. [47896]

Dr. Ladyman: Safety Camera Partnerships are comprised of representatives from local authorities, the police, the Highways Agency and the magistrates courts and optional representatives from the Crown Prosecution Service, national health service trusts and the health authority.

Safety Camera Partnerships are not however a legal entity, and they complement, not replace, existing local authority and police statutory responsibilities in respect of road safety. Safety Camera Partnerships are not therefore directly accountable to any elected bodies. However each member of the partnership does remain locally accountable to its parent body.

What do you expect from the party that dosent give a toss about its electorate.

and lets be honest, as soon as billy goes, no one will remove them, they generate too much income...

once the motorists learn and actually act as a united body, then, and only then will the elected members actually know what its like to be on the loosing side.

Yep, civil disobedience, refusal to fix, or carry numberplates.

That' a great idea alcazar however the fundamental floor in your plan is that the authorities don't give a toss and no matter how many people sign upto your not carrying number plates scheme, the bottom line is they will get fined and continue to get fined and then get fined and jailed. So all you are achieving is increasing the governments coffers by protesting.

but if everyone where to remove their numberplates they cant stick us all in jail. remember, laws are only enforceable if the general populous agree with them and dont break them!

Yeah but you will never get enough people to make it worth while becasue us brits are non whinging law abiding don't want to rock the boat types and there is no way you will get enough people at the same time to remove their plates and refuse to refit them.

it is easier to bend over and take the shafting than to do summat about it.

I blame the weather. It's usually too cold and/or wet to form any decent, lasting mass protest or civil disobedience. People get bored after a while and wander off home for a cup of tea.

lets face it if voting changed anything, the,d make it illegal.

I hear that billy has already been taking training in the dubyia protocol for when the next election is held..

(recounts and spin untill he gets his own way)
