I am in London and having a solid oak floor laid tomorrow.
Two out of the three people I rang to get quotes from couldn't be bothered to ring back (I left messages).
When one of them finally did, about 3 days later I had great pleasure in telling him he was too slow.
Phil

My mate who is a master carpet fitter sub-contracts himself to a large national carpet shop and he is hardly ever without constant business.
Between this and the jobs he gets from the limited amount of advertising he does he appears to do quite well.
Well enought to run a CSL anyway.
Im wishing I had learned his trade now..

Is this a firm sign that the housing market is definitely slowed down. People are also cutting back.
Less market activity = less people moving and putting in new carpets to their taste
Cutting costs = people have more important priorities than replacing carpets.
Wonder what the rest of the housing trades are like (e.g. plasterers, builders, gas fitters, white good sellers etc. etc.)

Im in east herts, and have just bought a house (small house), it will need new carpet, and wooden flooring (of sorts, not the expensive stuff), if this is the type of thing you can fit / supply, it may be worth dropping me a pm.
Cheers

This'll cheer you up while you're waiting for work.
Mate of mine bought a nice 30's house last year, had proper parquet flooring in the hall and living room, but was looking a bit grubby and could've done with being stripped and refinished.
But no, he decided to get it all ripped out and replaced with B&Q £1 per metre wood effect laminate crap
Asked him what he did with the old stuff because he could probably have got a few quid from the salvage yard - he chucked it in the skip outside, and some bloke came along and asked if he could have it, so he gave it to him.
