Default Eurolottery: Why?

Hello

There was a post on here about the EuroLottery, but I still don't understand why more people play because it's £125m. I was in a shopping center this afternoon and there was a huge queue of people wanting to play.

I play the lottery, and do so every week as it's one of the few opportunities to take you away from the hum-drum of life.

Steve.

Ive been saying the exact same thing for weeks, WHY?

1. Theres no more chance of winning
2. infact theres more chance of sharing it if you do win
3. Would you not be happy with £5million? isnt that worth playing the game for?

Probably the same reason why people are more excited about a bet of ten grand over a bet of 10 quid

An amount like that will always capture the publics imagination

Hello

But that's okay, I am one of those dreamers in that I play the lottery but am not inclined to do so MORE because it is £125m.

76 million to one is a better chance than not buying a ticket at all though

Yes (more or less), but the odd thing is, that's to do with the permutations of numbers available - it's NOTHING to do with the amount of people playing. I keep having to remind myself of that.

Hello

I think I must be one of the few that have never spent a penny on the lottery since its inception over 10 years ago.

So therefore I see myself as the winner as Ive not wasted £100s or even £1000s over those years as its estimated that most people spend £5/week on the lottery which I find rather sad.

If you don't agree with it, or think it's stupid, then don't buy a ticket. One less punter/ticket out there increases my chances of winning

Although £3m or £5m is a life changing thing. £125m puts you in a different league. It would allow me to make sure my close friends and more importantly, my family never have to work another day for the rest of their life. It allows me to do whatever I want, when I want, without thinking of money. With £5m, after you've given some away, bought a big house, 1 or 2 choice cars, you wouldn't be able to just spend spend spend. It will run out, as many lottery winners have found out. With £125m, unless you were a complete dork, it would never run out. That's why more people go lottery mad when it gets this high.

Yeah, my mum only tends to do the lottery if she hears there is a big rollover. So she would turn her nose up at 3 or 4 million? Or even fifty grand?

Suppose as far as the organisers are concerned, they're having a ball!

The Texas state lottery is often in the $50,000,000 region. Can't see it being worth entering really

I, too, don't usually do the lottery, although I did every week a few years ago.

I decided I'm going to gamble with the Euro Millions tonight, but it appears that the National Lottery website is down, probably due to an influx in traffic.

As there will be no more rollovers the prize fund will be spread out over all winners if nobody gets the jackpot - so that's a very good reason to have a go.

If you think about it in poker terms, the ante only justifies a bet at these odds if it is more than £112.5m - so I'm just playing the odds.

You do have more chance of being killed by lightning though, and a much higher chance of being killed by being run over than winning the lottery.

Besides which, you can only win if you live in the Midlands on a 5hitty council estate, work in a factory and promise to spend all the money on 9ct gold bling from Argos.

IMO, lot's of people (like myself) don't do the lottery every week - not because they can't afford it but because they can't be arsed and know they probably won't win anything very often.

A 'Roll over' is just an excuse to 'do the lottery'. I've bought a ticket for the odd roll over in the past. I never won the jackpot though so I don't bother anymore.

Err.....no.

Your chances of winning are only determined by the number of (unique) lines you purchase. What everybody else does has no effect on your chances at all.

I guess it increases his chances of being the sole winner.
