It's a Ferry, not a cruise ship - roll on roll off type too (remember the last one that went down? )

Oh is it? They were saying cruise ship when the news broke earlier.

Yeah I remember the 'Herald of Free Enterprise' when it sank at Zeebrugge, I was on it's sister ship the 'Spirit of Free Enterprise' the previous week. Certainly makes you think, if one of those things rolls over and sinks you don't have much of a chance unless you happen to be up on deack at the time.

Does sound a bit strange, no SOS received?

It was carrying pilgrims from mecca, but I dont think terrorism being involved is that likely as it was an Egyption ship.

Hope the number of casualties isnt that high.

You can't see the bows or stern though, where the ro-ro equipment is a give-away.

I was on the Spirit of Free Enterprise the same time the other ferry went down.

The conspiracy theorists could have a field day with this one. Old ships, sister ship sank less than 4 months ago, full of pilgrims going to mecca...

But wasnt Sharm El Shiek bombed last summer? Still a possibility IMO but the bombings were targetting tourists where this is a different kettle of fish.

I hope more survivors are found.

It is really frustrating when a boat lists before it sinks as you can't release the lifeboats (been there, done that).

I wish the survivors good luck.
