Ban Smoking In Pubs

So in order for those of you who agree with this approach, write or email your MP asking him/her to vote in favour.
As far as I am concerned, people can smoke themselves to their early grave in the privacy of their own home but I cannot go to a pub without having to endure the frankly disgusting atmosphere of other smokers polluting the air. Then when I do go home, I and my clothes reek of cigarette smoke
If smokers need to be selfish then, as I said, privacy of their own homes where I don't give a to$$. Pubs in Ireland are a pleasure to go in, so in order to get the same over here, I'll be emailing my MP.
Please do the same if you agree with my sentiment.

i wish they'd just get on with it and either ban it or not... sick of hearing about it.
Its lucky the rest of the business world doesnt take this long to make decisions or we'd be back in the stoneage still

Selfish but not a health-risk. Most people given the choice (which the majority of people don't have at the moment) don't want to be breathing in carcinogens, if that's selfish then good.

Not this one again.
They should either ban it outright, or leave it as is, I'd prefer it to be banned full stop as that would help me to quit
I dont see why it should be banned in social places, but they still cream the tax money for the NHS, so it should be one or the other.

As a non smoker why should I endure someone elses disgusting second hand smoke ? I fully support the ban of smoking of Pubs and public places.
Disgusting habit, especially with all the idiots that insist on flicking their cig ends everywhere.
What really makes me laugh / cringe is parents that smoke near babies / young children, selfish idiots IMHO.

That way you wouldn't have to go to the pub.

I don't smoke, although it doesn't unduely bother me. My partner is Asthmatic and it does bother her. We have found a pub locally with a non-smoking lounge. We can socialise, have a drink etc and not be affected. The smokers in the bar can smoke away to their heart's content.
The problem is the anti-smoking brigade are too idle to find such pubs and demand they should be able to go in to any room in any and all pubs and find them smoke free just to suit them.
It has been voulantary for pubs to enforce their own no-smoking areas or to be entirely non-smoking for long enough, if you claim you can't find these pubs then that suggests to me that you and others like you can't be sufficiently bothered to air your views and encourage your pub to provide the failities you want, instead you'd rather be selfish and deprive others of the facilities they desire just so you can be assured all pubs are as you want them, whether you intend to use them or not.

In a way I do think it would be a good idea to ban smoking in pubs as a whole, especially as the majority of pubs now serve food. There's nothing worse than sitting down to eat and having someone on the table next to you light up.
Failing that the pubs should revert to what they were originally - somewhere to go for a drink and a game of pool etc, without having to go home at the end of the night stinking of chips.

Find a pub / snooker hall that provides non-smoking facilities. If you can't find one, speak to the management about whether they would be prepared to provide suitable facilities for you. If you haven't voiced your opinion to the snooker halls / pubs then how can you complain they are not meeting your requirements?

Well call me selfish but I'm quite happy to deprive someone of their smoking habit, purely because regarless of the so called non smoking rooms, the smoke still drifts in (ok a lot of it is to due to poor air circulation) my clothes still have the horrible smoking smell, and I still get my eye streaming from the smoke !
So I'm selfish - just like the goverment that want to get all of us on public transport !

As I say, there are pubs with non-smoking rooms that can be used. The fact that the anti-smokers continue to go in to smoking pubs and then bitch about it despite this suggest to me that they are the selfish ones not the smokers.

Olly, but what if there is a group of 5 of you, say 2 of you smoke and 3 dont, do we all seperate and not be friends because some have a habit others dont like? Not as simple.
Do you ever go to the pub? or a social place like a snooker hall? thats probably why it doesnt effect you cause you avoid it all together by being a hermit

Well you choose you're friends. they aren't forced on you.

If I stop going to the snooker hall in protest it wont make a blind bit of difference will it... Others will still go and the only person being punished is myself not being able to play snooker and socialise with friends.

And smokers are been kind by stinking up the atmosphere and making people eye water, and making other clothes smell?
And if a (presume can't say tramp these days), so homeless persion, smelling badly due to unwashed etc, and spiting at people, do you think that the average landlord would allow them to stay ?
I know that smokers and non smokers are not going to agree about their habit and it would be boring if everyone agreed, but I feel that many (please note many and not all) smokers need to be more aware of their habit and its impact on others.
And IMHO the quicker they ban it in public places the better !

If you expressed your concerns about smoking to them and there were non smoking facilities, do you think they'd be prepared to use those to ensure you were happy but then you nip out now and again to smoke?
It's about compromise, meeting people half way rather than one group saying we have to win regardless of your feelings. It's called "win-loose" in sales and it is not the most productive way to do things - always seek the "win-win".

Presume you mean spit, therefore spitting, but what has that got to do with a smoker?
