How do I wire up aphone socket when the colours dont match the diagram?
Ok, a house I am doing up has a phone line installed, but its just a bit of wire sticking out the wall.
I bought a standard phone socket and it gives the wiring colours in the instructions, but the wire colours on the existing wire are different.
the standard wiring according to the socket instructions is
terminal colour
1 green/white
2 blue/white
3 orange/white
4 white/orange
5 white/blue
6 white/green
The wires coming into the house are solid colours - orange, white, black and green. It looks like only orange and white were used in the past. I tried the obvious orange to terminal 3 and white to terminal 4 but it didnt work. The line has been connected by BT and has a number assigned.
I will be running a second socket from this one which will be for a broadband computer. I have run the wire, and obviously know how to connect it as its coloured properly. I just need to know where the old-style colours connect to.
Thanks.
