Where to stay in the Lake District...
looking for a reasonably priced B&B/guest house in the Lake District for early May time. What places can you recomend town/village wise and any B&B's that you have personally tried and can recomend? I am assuming Kendal will be the most expensive place to stay? There are 4 of us so needs to be a B&B with more just 1 room. Looking for a relaxing time so walking, drinking and eating mainly so don't need to be close to any activity centres etc.
TIA for any suggestions

Kendal, Keswick (Will be pricey too), Bassenthwaite and Borrowdale are nice and should be a little cheaper, but probably not much in the way of accomodation - I camped there in the past

Aim for either Bowness or Windermere for good food/drinking. Keswick is also cool, and B&B's are cheaper than Bowness/Windermere.
There's a nice B&B in between Windermere and Bowness called Crompton House. £50 a night per room, and owned by a sound Geordie couple - they only took over the place 2 years back and have been having it all done up.
Walking distance to either Bowness/Windermere
We spend many weekends up there throughout the year, wonderful place

I've stayed HERE!. It's about 5-10 mins walk into Windermere and is a really nice place to stay. Every room is different and the Contempary suite is fantastic (floating bed!!!) Breakfast was nice every morning and the staff were very helpful. Reccomemded
There is also this one HERE which is the sister hotel and has some bizzare rooms (egyptian suite, jungle jane suite, flintstones suite) not stayed here but had it reccomended!!

I hope the above link works.
The Swan Inn (Windermere) was very good when my wife and I stayed a few years ago.
Sunday breakfast was exceptional
Beautiful setting, great bear and excellent food.
Also has pool, steam room etc.

For hotels, there is also the Hydro (£100 per room/pn) which is decent, and great location, plus Low Wood hotel which is expensive and between Ambleside/Windermere, but also very nice.
Ambleside is also a cool place to stay. I wanna go now, may book something for Feb
Oh, and for a good meal, go to the Tratoria Ticino in Bowness, a very nice Swiss/Italian restaurant, then find the "Hole in the wall" pub, round the back of the church for a nice atmosphere and great Baileys Latte coffee

Patterdale
How about the Patterdale Hotel close to Ullswater. Hotel situated in small village of Patterdale. Much quiteter than Windemere and less touristy.
Lake Ullswater is within 10 mins walk from the hotel, as well as Aira force waterfalls about 10 mins by car.(or long walk). The hotel is a part of a small hotel chain (choice hotels) and often has special offers for either weeeknd or mid week breaks. Typically for 5 nights about £150 per person, INCLUDING a fantastic breakfast and 3 course evening meal every day. Also sister hotel in Keswick,(forget the name now) which is bigger and a bit more plush, and more expensive. Have stayed in both, and prefer the Patterdale which is cheaper, and in our opinion the food was better, and the quieter location just what we wanted.
