I get them everyday, this is what I see from one side of our house

Quite used to them now apart from it being very windy if outside and very loud, 2 chinooks landed here on Thursday and I took our daughter out to see them, couldn't hear what she was saying and we were nearly blown away.

Yep lol
Every morning and afternoon the house shakes with helicopters and chinooks, last summer one was hovering above the house ready to land behind the house and it lifted my parasol out the garden and over the fence, I was like Mary Poppins trying to get it back, so they do pee you off but it's just an everyday thing now. Even worse when everyone goes and comes back from Iraq etc as there is hundreds of people to be flown back which means alot of chinooks.

Put 'Paint it Black' by the Rolling Stone's on the stereo and dig yourself a foxhole, tell the kids to keep their heads down cos the area is full of Charlie, perhaps go a bit mad and paint your face with the blood of a dead VC (or the bloke from the local takeaway) for camoflage.

chinooks and Apaches in Bedfordshire
seen loads over the last 2-3 days, flying in east and west directions over bedfordshire. mainly Chinooks , some with payload slung underneath. Also 4 Apaches in formation yesterday, and one really low today, too quick to get a photo. so low i could see the pilot. would trade in the Scooby for one of those, looked awesome in the flesh

Yeah they are great to look at, I get to see the pilots too lol
Need some strength when walking up to them, got a canny down force , it's strange how to be right underneath one when it's hovering is like a calm day you feel no winds from anywhere then as soon as you step out you are blowing all over the place, one of the most useful bits of kit in the forces. Would love to go in one, never had the chance but think it would be great.

think the Apaches must belong to 16 Air Assualt Brigade. guess they are travelling between Colchester and Salisbury , with mid Beds right in their flight path. beats watching the Easyjet planes, when I lived in Luton. The Apache I saw today was really low, wheras the 4 in formation yesterday were at higher altitude. camera at the ready hoping for more of the same tomorrow. will post up any pics i can get

We were part of 16 Air Assault, we were at Waterbeach with 23 Air Assault in 2003, but then moved here, to be honest I never seen many at Waterbeach but there's loads here, we have the main Apache base here where all 6 Apache's are kept.

Yeah i reckon so
The Exercise takes place across England, with units operating from Wattisham, Stanford Training Area, Sculthorpe and then across to Salisbury Plain Training Area before moving on to operate in the North of England
I wonder if that means 'operate' as in be based North at certain camps, or 'operate' as in they are coming North to carry on what they have been doing South, oh well if they come here I'm not bothered, like I say when you get used to them you don't really notice the amount of noise each time they land.

LOL, well it has happened before, my hubby was Iin Oman when Afghan all kicked off, they needed alot of equipment dropped in all the time, so the chinooks brought it all as they dont need to land and can just drop everything and pick things up, anyways, the chains hadn't been put on correctly so as the chinook was coming with the landrover to drop, the whole thing just flew off and landed in the middle of the desert smashed in to tiny pieces wedged in to the sand good and proper. Everyone ran that's for sure. They are amazing to watch espec when the pilots do their stunts

I'll keep my eyes open as I'm not far from luton.
I keep forgetting what my child hood was like, 12 miles from Shawbury / Tern Hill, 20 miles from Cosford and 4 miles from BOD Donnington and about 5 from GKN Sankey.
As you can imagine I used to see armour, planes and choppers all the time.

Was very busy here at the end of the week.... here being under the helipcopter approach to Wattisham.
Childhood was spent under the flightpath to twinbases of Woodbridge & Bentwaters when they were crawling with USAF. I almost miss A10s !

This puppy flew over Plymouth late last year.
I think they were coming off an exercise with HMS Ocean.
We see chinooks transporting the marines back to Bickley barracks off the ships.

Its the whole Brigade execising for their deployment to Afganistan, the apache's are from middle wallop where the pilot training school is.
I have just done a landing point commanders course where you rig all the different types of vehicles and then the chinnok comes and hovers about 4 feet above yuor head you then hook the kit on and give the thubs up, scary and loud as ****.
Got a couple of cracking pics here in iraq, taken from back door of Chinnok.

Buggers fly so low that from one spot on my local golf course you can look down onto them as they fly underneath...
