Credit card processing. . . .
Time to consult the scoobynet book of knowledge. . .
I work for a mail-order company.
Currently we have 1 shared PQD and 5 operators.
When a customer places an order over the phone, we don't process the card there and then, we do them en-masse later on in the day. This causes problem when there are issues with the payment process, and is very time consuming for the chap who has to process all the cards.
I want to streamline the order taking process whereby the card is authed while the customer is on the phone.
The problem is cost.
Acording to NatWest, the only option is:
Get a clean phone line put in to each operator, with an additional PDQ
- so they can process their orders as they go.
This is expensive as i've got to pay line rental on the lines & the 5 PDQ's.
Is there another way?

Track Day Organiser
worldpay have an add on that allows mail order ransactions IIRC
just punch the details as you go
Guess it will be a little more expensive than Natwest though

Change PDQ operator?
Sorry but POS (point of sale) ain't my strong point, I deal with the stuff that happens once you've swiped the card, ie Authing.

Cant you set up some sort of online system where each operator has a pc and enters the data into a special page? I've no experience in this field whatsoever ...perhaps this site might help:

we had the same problem mate. Eventually had to develop a piece of integrated software.
We deal with a provider called Ingenico. I'm sure they can talk through some business solutions with you (which both Barclays and Natwest have supported). Rather than the PDQ type terminals the system is PC based and allows you to input cards and auth within 30 seconds or so.
Very reliable......I transmit in the region of 1.5m a month using this.
