Default 93 RON highest I can find in USA....

.... I put off buying a new Impreza when I got over here as the highest RON I can find is 93. They sell 87, 90 and 93 which is advertised as the super-duper high end gas!

If Subaru recommend at least 97 RON at home, I assume (haven't checked myself yet) that the Subaru's here would be mapped for 93 and therefore would be running (slightly) less power and performance?

The Sti is only $30,000 here, but don't see the point in buying it if I'm going to be having to make do with 93 RON or messing around with octane boosters.

MON surely; not RON. A MON rating is lower than the equivelant RON rating.

Hope this helps.

As Simon says, Pump gas octane (PON) is usually an average of MON and RON

As said you cannot make a direct comparison. IIRC Ali-B is correct. But I thought speed limits ruled out any fun??

Ah, that would make a lot more sense........ I'll check this out, thanks. No the only possible downside to buying an Impreza here will be the low speed limit and the lack of bends, corners and empty roads!
