You need to sort out which letter equals which number.....A = 3, F = 5, etc
Is it me or is it an bad question.....i think they have got it wrong (or i'm being dumb!)
This is the q:
D X A = EB
E X A = F
B X A = EC
C X A = A
G X A = EI
F X A = CG
A X A = D
H X A = CH
I X A = CE

Well I & B have the same value.
I'm assuming the are expecting this to be solved as a series of simultaneous equations, and then substitute the knowns in to the other equations and solve accordingly? Is A=3 and F=5 a given or are you giving an example of the answer?

lol...me too! and its for a 9 year old.
if A x A = D then A has to be 2 or 3 ( 4 and above would equal 16 - a double digit number and D is a single digit)
but if A is 2 the D is 4 and the first one (D X A) is 8.....but their answer is EB, a double digit number - same with 3

How do you know I and B have the same value? I presume your looking at the 1 equations
I X A = CE and B X A = EC
the answer is different, if E =5 and C = 4 then
I X A = 45 and
B X A = 54
I X A = CE and B X A = EC
the answer is different, if E =5 and C = 4 then
I X A = 45 and
B X A = 54

but A cant be 1 as that would be A X A = A
it cant be 4 (or above) as A x A = 16 (a double digit number which doesnt tally)
so it can only be 2 or 3 - and that doesnt work!

prob is if C is 1 then B X A = EC is a number ending in 1 (cant be 11, 31, 41, 51 - can only be 21

value of E being 3 and value of C being 1?
Doesnt say that the numbers add together, they just sit together from my guessing... ?

Tiggs, you are answering the puzzle as you are going along now, using the theory that EC = 21, you can then work out that B is 7 etc!

your answer doesnt work
