Sky satellite via communal dish in apartments.
Hello and good evening,
I am between houses and renting an apartment for a few months. There is a communal sky satellite feed but I don't know how to use it.
Although tempting to subscribe to a decent package as it is only short term I could live with freeview stuff.
Can I just buy a Sky Digital box cheaply off ebay, then buy a Freesat card off sky for £20 - and just plug it all together and go??

Before buying anything you should check there is a free LNB on the satellite dish. Digiboxes cannot share LNBs in the same way TVs can share an aerial - the Digibox sends different signals to the LNB (encoded as different voltages I believe) depending on which channel you are watching. This is why Sky have to fit a quad LNB to your satellite dish when they install Sky+.

must add, the communal dish appears to be wonky or something, the signal strength is only approx 50% which means that unless the channel strength is quite strong i can not pick it up. this must be why the people above me have there own dish outside the window i guess?
trying to find out who to speak with regarding the communal dish was proving to be a bit of a pain so i just accepted that my free box and £20 was the best option
