How can I verifiy if a cars mileage is correct??
Need a new car, and theres a couple of cars I have looked at - one however has about 30k miles, and was subject to a cat D insurance claim 3years ago - however has no service history.....
How can I find out if this mileage is correct? Will an HPi check come up with this or not?? help!!

Hpi may possibly know but not all mileages are noted.
You can only judge for yourself really as any car, even with full history and backed up with Mots could have been clocked.

it should be on old mots if he still has them , although you can tell by looking at the seat , pedals , gear **** etc.............ie the amount of wear on these items

If you can find out where it was serviced, they usually can print out a service history from their computer. For more upper class marques the database is somtimes networked between dealerships.
Personally, I value a car without service hirstory as worth the same as a equivelent car with average miles (handy bargaining excuse )

The car has slight wear to the leather on the drivers seat where you get in and out - seems a little odd to me having only covered 30k..
Would the HPi check give the name of the supplying dealer? If it did theres a chance I could find out if it has been serviced there, or by any of the other dealers.
Thanks for all the advice so far!

on the bottom of the V5 (logbook) ther's a section for the selling owner to fill in the present mileage, this isn't compulsary but if the previous owners did fill it out then DVLA should have a record.
As mentioned above check with the previous owner on the mileage when they sold the car, details should be on the logbook for previous as well as current owner
