Been headhunted - need advice
I’m seeking a bit of advice. In the process of trying to find out if I was being paid what I’m worth, I emailed one of my company’s direct competitors and they have asked to meet me on a ‘no-obligation’ basis. I’ve never changed companies so this is a bit of a first. The outcome I seek is to establish what I am worth, but I suppose there’s the potential to be offered a job there too, either now or in the future.
At the interview next week, how should I go about it? Should I reveal who I currently work for? Should I go with the intention of trying to seek a job with them and see what comes of it? It looks like a win-win situation but I don’t want to score an own goal. Any advice would be appreciated.

My wife was head-hunted but through a specialist employment agency, so they did all the negotiations salary, terms etc for her.
I would go along, give details of experience and qualifications. Make it clear that you are currently employed by firm which is the same sector. and the meeting is private and confidential. If they really like you, then you can negotiate the detail, you know, Money Money Money, Holidays, Holidays, promotion prospects, pension plans and health plans etc.

lol...ego trip!
"headhunted" is not the same as what you did - which was ask for a job
On the basis you are emailing other companies i would offer you very little as you sound a bit desperate

have a private chat, no harm in that.
1. make sure you pick a place to meet well away from where you might bump into a colleague because loose lips sink ships.
2. do not use the company email system or a company mobile in your communications with them. you may be discovered (certain numbers or email addresses may be red flagged), which in turn may result in you being summarily sacked for gross-misconduct.
3. avoid brent-esque management babble like 'win-win situation' at all costs!
on a general point because i'm a pedant, one is only headhunted when a company - or an agent working on that company's behalf - initiates direct and confidential contact with a specific individual working elsewhere with a view to recruiting them for a specific job.
good luck.

You are "looking" for a job, you have not been "headhunted"

Nice spin. Perhaps you could get a job as a New Labour speech writer.
Your 'management speak' is coming on nicely too:
"It looks like a win-win situation but I don’t want to score an own goal."

Go and have a listen and see what they say. Golden rule is don't then go back to your existing company and use the new companies offer (if they make you one), as some kind of bargining tool to get a raise. It p*sses companies off and you don't want to get a reputation for doing it. Anyone does that in my section and I'll tell them to go -a lot of companies have a similar attitude, so be careful.

Check out msn jobs, or some of the proffesional recruiting sites, they usually have a comparator list of what the average sallary for your role,
however bear in mind, that it may say your worth 50K but you may not get that if your working for a very tiny company, or have only been doing the job for a few weeks
