Unhappy R.I.P Sammy 1990-2006

As most of you know Sams needed a lot of looking after this passed year and became quite high maintenance. Whilst I was in hospital he took a turn for the worse and couldnt walk, his back legs had completly gone. He was taken to the vets where it was decided it was for the best that he be put down. Apparently it took very little to knock him out. He would have been 16 in april.

Had my beloved labrador put to sleep between Christmas and New Year. I feel for you mate, not a happy time, but I'm sure you can take some comfort from the likelihood that it was the best thing for the dog

Condolences mate, I lost my dog -Harry- back in Nov, he was the best part of 20 years old. I still can't get used to going downstairs into the kitchen and seeing a portable heater where his bed used to be :-(

Remember the good times, be glad for the time you spent with him, and sleep well in the knowledge that you made his time on this earth very happy.

A quote from a song written by one of my fav bands seems appropriate:

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

Marillion- Estonia

Fell better mate.

Best wishes,

Paul

Sorry to hear that, it is like losing a member of your family, it effects you in the same way, when I lived at home we had a jack russell and she lived til she was 18, she eventually had to be put down as she had a heart condition and was on tablets and she eventually started dropping down as she couldn't hold herself up to stand, it's the best thing at the end of the day but hard and for ages after it takes a while to sink in that the dog isn't in the house.
We found it strange as we had to put newspapers down when we went out incase of any accidents but when we would come back home there would still be a mess to clean up somewhere, after she wasn't around it felt strange to not be putting stuff on to the floor and it even was stranger coming back in and not having to clean anything up, it's awful to have to be cleaning up all the time after them but when you aren't needing to do it it takes time to get your routine back as it had become a way of life beforehand.

Really sorry to hear about that. You must be pretty upset over it. Best to get another dog now and it will help you to get over the loss.

16v marc : Thought you might like this........

AM I SO DIFFERENT?

I'm always there for you
my love never wavers. Oh yes,
you may say it's unconditional.
Yet I am slighted if you walk by
without so much as a word.

Why can't we communicate better?
You speak to me, I to you and yet
perhaps we don't need words. They say
eyes speak volumes. You're always
referring to my big brown eyes, how
appealing they are and sometimes so pleading.

And I look at your face and see changing
emotions. I stay close when you're sad
and keep my distance when you're angry.
I suppose that's where our big difference
lies. Because except for my eyes,
there's not much else to indicate my mood.
Except that is, for my tail.

Sorry to hear, Marc.

As you said, at least he didn't suffer. Little comfort, I know, but it sounds as if it was for the best.

Marc, sorry to hear about your old freind, I know how much you thought of him, end of an era and all that.

I came down this morning to find that tragically our 13 year old Spaniel was sadly still alive, I am still coming to terms with this sad turn of events.

Someone gave this to my husband when he had to put his poor old dog to sleep.

He was gutted as I'm sure you are.

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
