This bloke drove past a speed camera at 22mph and extracted some urine and his punishment wasn't so much less:

The lesson is not to try to make a fool of their income stream, they don't like it.
I hope your friend was OK? Or as OK as you can be under those circumstances.

Never heard of a ban longer than 3 years, but the fine is paltry - insulting even...Glad your friends on the mend and it wasnt life threatening...

I got hit by a guy who was 3 times over the limit, I was off work for over a year and had to have more operations than I care to remember I also had to learn to walk again, The guy hit me head on at 100 mph and over took 2 cars on a blind bend, His punishment £375 fine £125 costs and a 15 month driving ban

The Police said he was the type of guy who would do again and again, he didn't give a toss

Earlier this year Catherine Bickerdike, a 29-year-old mother of one from Warton, Lancashire, set an unenviable record for what was reported to be the highest ever breath test reading — almost six times over the legal limit (183mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath compared with a legal limit of 35mg). She received a six month prison sentence and was banned from driving for four years. Drivers who kill while over the limit face up to 14 years in prison.

Sounds like your friend got hit by the most drunk person ever, that's pretty damn unlucky.
