Is WWF Wrestling a sport?
I think there is a new criteria emerging for Sport/non-Sport distinction.
Like darts, WWF thrives on the basis that all the competitors have to have a special nickname.

yes it is scripted, there was a very interesting documentory on sky about Jake the Snake Roberts i believe on the work load etc. You also saw The Rock and his opponent (cant remember name) planning how the match would go. Some moves will hurt to a certain extent but the wrestler will try to soften the blow as much as possible. For example they cradle the neck of someone when suplexing them and also drop them evenly on the mat to spread out the pressure of the fall. Of course there is a risk and these days its a lot more extreme than it used to be. the things that Jake the Snake was saying about his private life were shocking, did anyone else see this

There's a famous clip of some presenter telling Giant haystacks that the wrestling wasn't a sport. Haystacks picked him up a slammed him to the floor and asked if he still thought it wasn't a sport .
ps Could have been some other wrestler and the question could have been different - but I think it was Haystacks before some **** corrects me

it is scripted, Read "Have a nice day!" and "Foley is Good" by Mick Foley who was in the WWF for some years as Castus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love for the extent of how scripted it is.
However, its worth noting that even though it is scripted, there is an element of "the show must go on". Foley keeping in character and wrestling with a seperated shoulder and a fractured skull is a good example. In the books he points out with some degree of irony that in genuine sport, as soon as someone is seriously injured the match is halted. Its only in the "Fake" sport that they have to continue to perform, despite the injury.
