My names Charles and im an alcoholic
Charles Kennedy, as you all know by now has admitted to having a "drink problem". However did you notice that not once did he admit he was an alcoholic. Is it me or is he just not playing the game, ie admitting he is an alcoholic. Hes just trying to skirt round the issue.
Also would you trust him with the economy and the armed forces? I know I wouldnt

Well the interview I saw he did say I have a drink problem and Ive sorted it. If you have a drink problem I would suggest your admitting to have been an alcoholic too

But of course Winston managed quite well.........
Kennedy's finished now anyway.

Probably quite a lot of hypocrisy going on anyway. A lot of MPs seem to enjoy a fair tipple, as well as the journalists Cosy wee club, but I guess it was an easy way to oust him as leader....

I has been alll over the radio this morning as you would expect!
My views
He lied about his probblem when asked - some say that is what addicts do so if this is the case he is not really party leader material. IMHO he shoould have come clean when first asked but this is not the current politicians way, spin and lies!
He still will not admit to being an alcoholic - just has a drink problem - is that not like just being a bit pregnant?!? - rubbish, he either is an alcoholic and the sooner he admits this to himself and others the better or he is not.
I think he would be better standing down and sorting himself out before deciding what to do.
He is not showing any real leadership qualities at the moment.

...note the word essentially. What does he mean by that? I realise that once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic, so one perhaps cannot have full & final resolution. Or does he mean he "thinks" he's sorted it?
I've sought professional help and I believe today that this issue is essentially resolved.

So he had a drink problem, but it is "essentially resolved" and he has not had a drink now for 2 months. The statement was only made because itn preented him with undeniable evidence of his problems.
I think he is most definately superhuman, leadership material. Any other person who has the strength to admit (and admit properly not in some half arsed way) knows it takes a damn sight more than 2 dry months to resolve.
If he'd come out and said I'm an alcoholic, I've admitted this to myself and I am getting help to do everything I can about it he would have had my utmost respect. He doesn't now I'm afraid.

The problem is, and I suspect as the days go on we'll hear more of this, but he will NEVER get away from this in the future. Any time he is absent, ill, not functioning 100%, this issue will ALWAYS get dragged up.
I don't believe his position is tenable. Once the sympathy has gone in the next few days, he'll stand aside for sure...the main candidates have ruled themselves out FOR NOW, but I suspect they're waiting for him to step aside once everyone deems it is best for the party to have these main candidates running for the leadership. He is bringing the party down with him right now.
Watch & see....

A drink problem need not be alcholism, although usually is. I had a drink problem at uni, it meant I was sick the next day and had headaches. The bigger problem was I couldn't afford to do it as much as I wanted
Anyway, for CK, is he addicted to alcohol or does he jsut get pi$$ed all the time and act a prat? Maybe he's eventually realised that the LD will never get anywhere near winning the general election and thus keeps drowning his sorrows?

I was a hotel manager in Fort William where he stays/stayed.
He was well known as a nice guy and for liking a good drink. Only took the Press about 5 years to find out.
