'Yupis' still attract high prices second hand. If you want something robust and reliable expect to pay between £100-150

I bought one about 6 years ago ............
Brilliant then with all the mobile phones
Then they went digital
The Police were interesting ......... but they have gone now too
Nothing left except neighbours who have analogue cordless phones and child intercoms .............. not worth buying one IMO
But if you do, get a stepless one .....

I use an Icom IC-R5 for airshows, listening to the civilian/military frequencies and to the formula one teams during test sessions/GP.
Nice compact scanner but the tuning function on it isn't to everyone's taste as it done via a **** that you 'dial' frequencies in.
You can probably pick one up on ebay under £100.

I find myself in the difficult position of agreeing with cslewis. I bought one in 1991 but theres nothing to listen to now; Police forces that havent yet moved onto the digital system soon will have.

Yeah...had one back in the 80's for some, ahem, discreet listening. Some of the old TACS mobile phone stuff was pretty funny. Given the 80's was a time where mobiles were mostly used by business people, the lines really lit up after dark. Affairs a plenty.
Dig it out now & then for a play, but not much to listen to nowadays as has been said. I suspect even F1 etc are now digital. Can't be long before aviation goes digital surely? Anyone know if this will happen????
