Paid 600 for mine in September......
Sasha or Digweed would be more...
I also gave him a list of about forty songs I wanted playing, which I would recommend.....

A lot of venues have their own in house jocks or people they 'prefer' you to use. Don't, usually crap old men playing S club all night. There are also a few agencies out there who will sell you someone, also a don't!!
Expect to pay for what you get, ie pay 100 quid, get a spotty kid who aint any good. It's all down to budget and what you wat, a good wedding jock will have a cd of his set and references from other parties he's done.
When's the wedding and how far into planning are you?

Its the end of March, the planning is at the initial stages.
I do know a DJ, he wants to charge £250 which i think is excessive, but he would let my bring my own cds etc and play whatever i want. The only thing is, is this guy is a bit of a clown, nice enough bloke etc, but i have never seen him in a DJ capacity before.

I DJ'd my own wedding, could not risk the in house DJ !! - did cheat by creating the entire playlist beforehand and just letting the CD's run all night but once you know what works it does not vary much and it was a gamble worth taking - plus Ive since ended up doing loads of mates weddings. I'd say a couple of hundred quid sounds about right, or if you have a good playlist (80ish tracks for 8-12pm) you could spend the money on some basic gear.......but I suspect you will have enough on your mind.

Couldn't agree more, the last thing you want is people thinking the music or DJ was cr@p cause it'll make a big difference, a packed dancefloor all night is much better than people sitting at tables chatting. Google local, I suggest or yell.com and like Chris said, expect a demo and defo provide a list.
