Question Ipod Nano help "numptie alert"

Ok folks the Mrs got me a Ipod Nano for Xmas now reading through the associated bumph that came with it it states that it requires a USB2 port, problem is my laptop is a few years old now and only has USB1 ports will it still work? or will I need to get a PCMCIA/USB2 adaptor card?

Thanks
John.

As far as I know, it'll work - the transfer rate will be a little slower, though.

Couldn't you have just plugged it in and tried?

Hi John - it will definitely work from a USB1 port but the transfer rates are a lot slower than USB2.

Merry Xmas by the way!

Cheers

For 'a little', read 'a LOT'

You may get somewhere IRO of;
12Mbit/sec with USB 1
480Mbit/sec with USB2

So upgrade...

Those are the theoretical maxima, but you'll be lucky to get the data off the HD at 480Mbit/s

I'd started to post all sorts of reasons why this wouldn't be seen (hardware, software limitations) and I'd even blown the dust of my Data Transfer calculator... but as their were so many variables I felt it was a little OTT for this post, so I stuck with IRO..
