polish out a key scratch from car bodywork?
hi all,
my bosses car got keyed last night on the off side rear panel, i know most of you use fancy polish, is they any stuff that will polish it off?? i know you used to be able to buy colour wax and that kind of did the job?
any other reccomendations?
cheers.

rule of thumb: If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail then it won't polish out.
If it is just the lacquer then perhaps a compound paste and a finesse-it type product followed by a polish.

As PG said, if you can feel it with your fingernail its too deep if its not that deep try Meguiars Scatch X either that or take it to a bodyshop, they might be able to buff it out with a fine cutting compound.

dont use scratch x. its not as good as its cracked up to be.
meguiars do a three stage wax, but i've forgotten the name. it will say stage 1 on the bottle, you dony need stage 2 or 3 cos they're just a polish and wax. stage 1 though is brilliant.
as the others say if you can feel the scratch then you wont be able to polish it out, otherwise this stage 1 will work.

you can flat out scratch,s if its broken into the laquer as long as its not gone to the base coat
get some 1500 wet and dry with a good block .water and washing up liquid and gently go over the scratched area gently .checking every few rotations
be careful tho as scoobs are very tight with the laquer
then just mop the panle up useing g3 or g10 then polish
goodluck
