Of course it is easy to laugh at this, but what if the "error" had only been 5mph and had put the motorist at 35mph? Would anyone have been on his side or laughed then? Once again this highlights the importance of demanding all the evidence, attempting to use your own methods to determine your speed and, if necessary, fighting it through the courts.

"When he appealed, Greater Manchester Police immediately realised their mistake and cancelled the ticket - they said it was an inputting error. " &
She said the information on the ticket was inputted manually, and the mistake was down to human error.
I think Not ! Plenty of stories on the web of people receving tickets of them travelling at impossible speeds !

With there being so many places where "error" can be introduced - radar reflections, altered inter-flash timings, inputting mistakes etc. it is surprising that any speeding offence could ever be brought to court!!

To be honest i'm inclined to think that instead of appealing the ticket he might have been better to have taken the points and paid up, after all if you've done the crime then you deserve the punishment :-)
Being serious though it would have been interesting to see if they would have processed his fine and points for 800mph.
I have no idea why this is a manual process but perhaps the fact that any money they don't spend goes back to central government might give us a clue. The head men in the partnerships are probably paid, in some strange way, in relation to the number of people they manage and so it is in their interests to waste the money and to employ as many people as possible. In so doing their personal empire gets larger and larger and the motorist gets to finance it.
