Question Philips 'AmbiLight' TVs

Good or bloody annoying??

I can't make my mind up whether it enhances the TV watching experience or distracts from it?

IMO it would distract but I haven't sat and watched one, only seen the pics etc.

The majority of flat screens are in fact made by LG Philpips these days.

The Philips 32' won the What Hifi best telly in the awards last month - have written to santa but have not been a good boy this year (spent too much on the loud pedal!)

Things should improve with Philips now being at the helm.

Ive got both Philips and LG TVs in my house and have had no trouble with either of them.

And Pete just how much longer are you going to wait before you buy a new TV.

I challenge you to beat this one for value and an awsome picture and viewing angle! http://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk/site...0Scotland%20UK

Should be coming any day and will cover me whilst the LCD prices get in line and size.

I'm sorry to disagree: the two companies I've had the WORST customer service from, by far, were PHILIPS and Sharp. I never buy any of their products now, and never will.

Looked at that one today ... £999 + VAT - not actually very impressed - rear projection just doesn't do it.

I have a SONY Trinitron 29" and I cannot find a big 42" TV to equal the picture quality

Thats why I'm stuck!

i have an old sharp 14" tv that i used to use with my spectrum computer that still works 100%

infact i would go as far as to say that it is twice as good as the bag-o-****e "pacific" 14" jobbie i bought for the office at work

(we swapped as the old sharp does not have a scart and we like to play ps2 at work ) rf cables are not a option due to interferance in this location

I've seen this one in action and was VERY impressed compared to my 5 yr old Tosh Rear proj - would never have considered another rear proj really until this one blew my socks off!

LCD [or indeed CRT] would be better of course if you are happy to pay the premium and need a TV that mounts on a wall rather than tucks into a corner. Otherwise this is the wise man's choice - OK the tight wise man!

Must admit I have got a LG - but it's not a patch on the old Thomson one I had. That was an eighties model and it had more extras on it than a lot of much more modern ones. The problem was that it was rented and if you called them out three times they replaced the set .....

Sony 3 LCD rear projection televisions are excellent! Ive had one for a good while and its superb (until I broke it...); greatly superior to small CRT rear projection televisions and as good if not better than most DLP rear projection sets. Only the Samsung DLP televisions are better than the new/current Sonys. The new HD-Ready (7201 & 720p) 50" monster which includes a freeview receiver (with a VGA input too!) and a glass stand costs about £1,200 from Empire Direct. Id have happily taken one of these from my insurance company (accidental damage claim); but in their wisdom theyre supplying me with a Sony 40" LCD television! (the dearer of the two too!).

Happy to be corrected but think it is a light shone through 3 x LCD panels [RGB] as opposed to a hot 3 x CRT device [like conventional telly] on older projector TV's. These suffer from convergence errors unless set up properly where the R, G & B beams dont quite line up when they hit the screen - see any pub for this!
