Did I miss something?
If you're overtaking a line of parked cars and someone pulls out of a junction on your right hand side. Aren't THEY supposed to give way to you?
If so, why did this complete arsewipe in an Astra give ME lip when I had to slam the brakes on to avoid hitting him?
Really winds me up sometimes.... hey ho....

Kind of depends, if he was starting to pull out before you started overtaking, then you could argue he was on the main carriageway and you should have given way.

No they don't have to give way. They might have to to avoid an accident with a ******** who overtakes past a junction though.
As mentioned in the post above, read and learn.....
143: DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example
approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road
where the road narrows
when approaching a school crossing patrol
between the kerb and a bus or tram when it is at a stop
where traffic is queuing at junctions or road works
when you would force another vehicle to swerve or slow down
at a level crossing
when a vehicle is indicating right, even if you believe the signal should have been cancelled. Do not take a risk; wait for the signal to be cancelled.

Or drive like you are trying to kill everyone else. That works too if you're in a mean balck Forester
To the original poster: the other driver was a dick. If the other guy is pulling out he should make sure that he doesn't force anyone on the main carriage way to slow down or swerve when doing so.

If somebody pulls out of a side road from a give way jucntion, then they are supposed to give way to traffic in BOTH direction, regardless to whether they are turning left or right.
So yes, Kieran, your in the right. BUT you should also drive in awareness that sombody may pull out of the juction without anticiptaing that the parked cars could cause an obstruction/hazard.

I did ALi - that's why I was able to stop... as soon as I started to pass the PARKED CARS (that's for Reffro who clearly missed the bit about the cars being parked ) I kept a weather eye on the junction and the moment the guy in the Astra pulled out I was on the brakes and horn (in that order).
It was only that action that stopped me smacking straight into him...

instead, if you find there is a car parked near a junction, reverse two and a half miles until you find a suitable turning place and then take a different route home
