Cool Places to stay in Amsterdam?

Any recommendations please? Doesn't have to be anything mind-blowing, just clean and functional. Ta.

I stayed at an apartment complex next to the grasshopper which is between Central Station and dam square in july...we got the number direct from the grasshopper and it was dead cheap for a duplex apartment...can sleep up to 8 people. Location wise you will not get any better.

Can't remember the accomodation name sorry (was too busy eating mushrooms )

We stayed in a hotel just outside the centre a few years back; seemed nice. Clean rooms etc, bar... As we wandered away from it, we looked back to the front, and spotted that the neon sign outside it was in fact an enormous wilf

I'm guessing you don't want me to seek out the name of it Tel?

Stayed at the Rho Hotel on a side street off of Dam Square a few times.
Pretty decent large hotel with a good buffet breakfast and competent staff.
Right in the heart of the city as well & ten mins walk from the railway station.

Tel, I wouldn't recommend staying too close to the centre at your age

The Motel Botel (it was/is a boat), something different I guess, is clean, funtional and only a five minute walk to the Damrak. I've stayed there twice, no real complaints

Apparently it was called "*** City". Hmm. According to the person who booked it, it wasn't a ***** but a sausage-shaped light... renamed as AMS City Centre Hotel now.
