I can hear it now "prepare yourself for a new engine" from the dry crank brigade
Almost as serious as "must remap the car for a decat"

That is a REAL mans Oil Change ........... I love the mental feeling when you turn the key and just start it (I am picturing all the sad acts on here fainting and screaming that the world will end!!)
It's as simple as that, isn't it??
Imagine being of such mental disposition that you NEED to fill the Filter and allow to soak overnight!!! Imagine the mental processes that operate to make you do a thick thing like remove the Crank Angle Sensor
They really ARE freaks!!! Not like us REAL men!!!

I have to say with honesty, i think some of the Hype surrounding the scoob oil change is just that,
We get people proclaiming it to be fact, despite nothing in my owners manual.
stating anything about prefilling, disconnecting sensors, or anything else.
Likewise when filling with semi synth as opposed to fully synth
one even stated it should be normal practice for all cars, theyve obviously filled a car with a horizontally mounted filter!
one thing eludes me though, despite all the claims its gospel and mandatory,
no one has ever posted copys of the official documentation stating this,
surley thats the one way to put the argument for the scoob to bed so to speak.

but it still dosent provide any corroborating data...
If everyone is that sure this is the policy and endorsed by subaru,
post the service sheet, or the official engineering bulliten.
that way the doubters are quelled.
If i had stood up in front of one of my automotive customers and went on about a problem that was occuring, with one of there vehicles, the first thing they are going to want to see is data showing the concern and the root cause.
We put a .5p fix on a component we produced, nothing major, just a increase in a plastic rib, it took 3 days of testing, a engineering revision within our company and the automotive oem, a dealer and pdi update, and an engineering update for any vehicles in the field. Not to mention the buy in from recieving inspection, plant quality manager, body engineering and numerous others. ansd al along the way is a documented paper trail, and an electronic one too.
Surely if this problem is as widespread as we are led to believe, Subaru should be aware, and paperwork should exsist.
it would kill the argument dead one and for all

Semi synthetic is perfectly good for the engine and less oil drains out of the bearings when you shut down which it better for the next start.. Its also considerably cheaper.
It is a sensible precaution to at least fill the oil filter before the re-start to allow oil pressure to get to the bearings more quickly. It is not rocket science that it is considerably kinder on the bearings, no wonder PSL does not understand that.
Its just a matter of respect for a good engine which deserves to be taken care of.
If you just can't be bothered, its your pocket that might just suffer. This is good advice for any engine anyway and many Subaru dealers will recommend changing the oil with that kind of care.

BTW - I always fill the oil filter before screwing it to the engine!!!
It's the wally that posted here that he soaks it OVERNIGHT!!! that beggars belief!!
Lesley .... your first line was pretty good for a non-engineer

OK - oil change - warmed oil drains off internals for half an hour. therefore didconnect crank position sensor before re-starting.
Car sits in garage overnight, all weekend or during winter months - oil still drains off internals for the duration - do you sill disconnect the crank postiion sensor each morning / monday morning / first day of spring before you fire her up?
Discuss!!!
Group buy on gravity defying snake oil... anyone???
