BT Privacy question- anyone up on this?
We have a pain in the **** neighbour that rings anything up to about 30 times a day.
She's just moved to the area with her husband, doesn't know anyone, husband works away a lot, and tbh the wife's always a sucker for a sob story.....
I told the wife I was going to either ban her number or change our number but she won't let me do anything quite so obvious. We settled on the BT privacy option, not allowing any anonymous calls. Previously, if we didn't answer the phone if her number showed (home or mobile) she'd withold the number.
Wife has told her not to ring repeatedly at weekend or in the evenings, and if she doesn't answer to leave a message and she'll return it as and when she can. Seems there was something she didn't understand....
Last night we had several calls that showed 'unavailable' on the caller display. Looks like she's found a way round the anonymous call reject.
Does anyone know how this can be done? ie anonymous call reject bypassed?
As I mentioned earlier, please don't suggest that I ban her number or change ours- the first is out anyway if its coming in as 'unavailable'.
Thanks,
Simon.

Her husband owns one of the larger liverpool security firms so that could backfire (although I suspect he may be quite enthusiastic about it!)

30 times a day!!!!
you need to speak to her.
is she fit?
wait until her husband sees the itemised bill, lol.
why dont you speak to her husband?
or phone the bizzies!!!
sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.
be up front and clear the situation.
good luck

she's not the prettiest thing unfortunately. have tried speaking to her but, as is a common affliction with liverpool housewives, her mouth seems to work a lot better than her ears.
suspect her husband doesn't know the full extent as she usually calls from her mobile and hangs up before the 1571 kicks in, so it doesn't register.
unfortunately due to the type of family we are dealing with the wrong kind of action would end up with me getting the sh kicked out of me and the cars getting torched
anyway guys, was after some suggestions as to how BT privacy can be circumvented rather than general suggestions of how to deal with it

Do you have anonymous call reject enabled? The basic BT privacy package gives you caller ID and signs you up for TPS. The anonymous call reject is an add on that you have to pay for (£4.00 p/m) - If you are paying for that feature and it doesn't work, speak to BT.

Yeah, got it already, phoned BT to check it was enabled and it is. tried witholding from my mobile and can't get through.

I should add - it seems that if someone calls you from a phone on a switchboard the number shows up as unavailable, but it gets through the anonymous caller reject thing. It only seems to stop callers which would normally show up as 'withheld'

I just ignore it to be honest, we have two phone lines so I usually unplug line 1 as soon as I get home. You'd think she'd have lost unterest as we haven't answered the phone to her in about three months now!
I was just interested in the BT privacy thing and how one would get round it.

my voip software will say that the number is unavailable, bit extreme!
Just change the telephone number its by far the easiest option in your circumstances, BT should do it for free if you are getting nuisance calls. make sure its ex directory!

You could always put forward all calls on your line 1 to her home number. Then tell all your pals to call your line 2 or mobile.
Other than that I'd try having another word with her and tell her it's driving you nuts and you'd like her to stop.
And make sure she understands.

I expect SN can club together and lend you a motorhome for a bit.
VIZ top tip: Playing music too loud can annoy your neighbours.
Another good way is to set light to their dustbin.
