Far too lenient on him. How can he say £21m profit aint fleecing us? Wonder if he'll get told off for asking his wife to take his points

To be fair, Clarkson and Ladyman could have been at each others' throats for the whole show given the chance. I think both sides got their point across quite efficiently.

The guy has 9 points on his licence and yet still defends speed cameras. What more is there to know?

In the end of the day. Clarkson has made clear what he thinks, as do the enthustiatic mortorists. I'm certain Ladyman is highly aware of their general views.

Slamming him, ridculing and making him look stupid Paxman style will only get his back up, make him defensive and more determined on his own views. And also convey more persecution to the motoring public and Clarkson from the PC lentil munchers.

Keep it civilised, and light hearted. If they wanted it to be utterly serious politics then leave to newsnight IMO.

Interesting that Simon Cowell pays MORE in Taxes than is made in Speeding Fines!!

Lets not here any more total crap about a TAX!!

Puts you lot to bed over that!!

Like the man said, "You know where the cameras are, they are painted BRIGHT yellow, they are posted on the internet ...... if you STILL get caught then you are a right ****"!!!!

Of course.....It's just a sign of governmental inefficiency. All that money gained has been flushed done the bog in Civil servants wages, setting up partnerships and through every other grate in the drain. Leaving a pathetic £22m left over

This is where Clarkson missed an opportunity because a hell of a lot of them are hidden off motorways, on bridges etc so there is no warning of their existence.

Anybody who has been to see Top Gear knows that the interview lasts a LOT longer than ends up being shown - now, the unedited version I wouldn't mind seeing.

Why don't they ditch the fixed penalty, and just hand out the points?, or make the fine a bare minumum to cover the cost of the camera?

Motorists stop moaning they are being fleeced.
'Road safety' is maintained in the governments eyes.

Missed the opportunity to say how do speed camera's pick up faulty lights, bad driving other than speeding etc - reduce the camera's and get more damn traffic cops back on the roads..........

Another thing that nobody mentioned....the death figures have stayed pretty level for the last few years according to what was said on the show, this is despite the ever increasing number of cars on the road. So the cameras must be doing something?

I believe the Scamera partnerships claim that every camera saves at least 1 life a year. With over 5000 cameras how come the death rate has stayed the same (unless we accept that without them deaths on the road would be up 150ish %)???

Thank you Carradoboy, makes it all crystal clear now.

On another point, I think the programme last night descended into total rubbish re the "coolwall" tussle on the floor. I'm fast losing respect for the presenters and the content. Its getting sillier by the week.
Flame suit on, + running shoes.

LOL - that was the best part. It's called having a laugh - something many females fail to understand in my experience.

It's an entertainment show based around cars and last night was entertaining. Compare it to "old" Top Gear (or 5th Gear as I beleive it's called) and see what's more fun to watch. I'm a car anorak, but even I get bored watching programs that talk about how much luggage space a car has, whether "the controls fall easily to hand" etc. I want to watch maniacs doing daft things in cars, it's much more fun!

Hear, hear

Talking of maniacs doing daft things in cars, did anyone see that thing about drifters on M & M last night Begs the question, how many cars did they destroy learning to drive like that?

Never been caught. But have you ever been flashed while passing a camera doing more than the limit? Tell the truth now.
