Default DVLA are selling your information

Interesting article in the MoS on how the DVLA are selling your details, for £2.50 a shot, to a range of dodgy characters. This is especially interesting in view of the fact that most decriminalised parking scams are illegal, as discussed in my previous post, and so the government is effectively selling your information to organised crime:

if i recall one of the companys there. used to run a scheme near to where my mum lives.. ( i,m not naming names just to be sure)

talk about extortion.... if you overstayed the free parking ?? you would be clamped and potentially removed..

the cost for clamping and towing away.. along with operator charges and storage (only for say 24 hrs) a cool £1000

suffice to say there was such a protest and threatened boycott that it was dropped very quickly..

dvla .. govstapo dept, there will be an enquiry, spin whitewash and then we,ll have to move on...

no one will be accountable, or take the rap.

LOL

I think it is interesting to consider that this is the government who are asking you to trust them over ID cards and constant satellite tracking of your car!! For £2.50 they will sell your details to any dodgy character who has reasonable cause to ask for them based upon legislation that was never debated or voted for in Parli. Even worse is the fact that most of the people they are selling this information to are engaged in blackmail and extortion that is illegal under the 1689 Bill of Rights and that is clearly morally wrong.

Isn't this a bit like what they did in "Gone in 60 Seconds"

I mean what's to say they could check out where all these high performance cars are located at and drop by to nick it!

This government stinks.

The need the numberplate first though.

Regardless, if true (this is the tabloid trash mail remember!), then I very much doubt that it'll come to anything. If it does then it's rather bad news. Picture dodgy firms getting your address and sending the heavies round rather than going through more legitimate means!

Well, they can actually. But only to those that can prove a legitimate reason. Essentially this means the police, nhs, government depts. council traffic depts etc. It should NOT include private clamping/parking firms of course.

Oh, and the law is the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998.
