Default Ghost Squad???? WTF????

Anybody else see this programme Tuesday night? I videoed it and watched it last night after the missus had seen it and said it was good!

Was it just me or was it total utter cr*p?

Did it make sense to anyone out there or am i just daft?

Let's look at it slowly.....

Young cop arrests a drug dealer and stands with him outside the nick waiting to go into custody (been there, done that, no problem). then goes into custody office, into middle of what seemed like a riot! Does she put him in a cell as anyone would? Does she speak to custody sergeant? NO!! She puts him, handcuffed, into an interview room and leaves him there! Already i'm thinking this is a bit odd!!

After a bit of talk with lady cop 2 (flatmate i think) and the usual fight with the vending machine she goes back to the interview room and.......... OH MY GOD HE'S DEAD!!! Cue the usual, hands on chest, thumping about shouting 'COME ON RASHID, COME ON!!' But no good, he's kiffed it!

Death in custody, not good at all. Now here comes the funny bit, instead of sealing the custody, seizing her uniform and gathering statements, a bolshy looking plain clothes guy (just what rank was he anyway?) says not to bother and make sure the young cop is ok!! AND THEY DO!! Not a sniff from the custody sergeant whose head this is all gonna come crashing down on, not a senior bod in sight, just a rather nice view of the young cop in the shower (she was female if you didn't see it!!).

But what's this, some scallywag has nicked her blood stained uniform! And who's these uniformed blokes coming through the doors and escorting people out of the nick? We soon know as one bloke goes into the only office in the building (it seemed) and announces he's from the Independant Police Complaints Authority and 'THIS NICK IS UNDER LOCKDOWN!!'

Eh?! Who? The IPCA would get involved, but much later and certainly wouldn't come in and lock a nick down with uniformed officers, but no-one seems to notice this point, thy're too busy handing over mobile phones and having their private property from their lockers thrown all over the place. Cue my giggling fit and a sharp look from the missus! Bloke then informs assembled plod they are all going to get interviewed and no-one is coming in or out til its done (but you can keep sneaking off to other rooms all alone for a chat!).

Young cop gets interviewed next, the usual we think you're lying, why did you kill him etc. Check the CCTV she screams, we would but it's been nicked, he says! Come on fess up. why did you kill him? Where's your uniform? Oh, nicked as well eh?? Cue her doing the classic 'Am I under arrest? No? Then this is over!!' and storming out to go and tell everyone what has been said.

Now here's where i got confused. Over the next 20 or so minutes, she spoke to a uniformed cop who had arrested the lad previously and told him she thought he had done it, spoke to plain clothes no rank cop and pledged she was on their side and wouldn't grass (grass what exactly?). She then got interviewed again and started screaming that the interviewer had touched her boob and said he wanted to diddle her before running out!! Then plain clothes cop 2 arrives and says he rang complaints a couple of weeks ago and they told him out of the blue there was a 'gang' at the nick!? Young cop then storms into only office where all cops are sat and claims she didn't grass anyone up (again....WHAT FOR??) before one of them starts calling her a grass!! But no she claims, its plain clothes cop 2 who's the grass as he told her and proves her loyalty by jumping on him and writing 'GRASS' on his forehead in ink??!!

Cue lady cop 2, who then takes young cop into another room and says well done, we knew you were on our side! What about the evidence, young cop asks (evidence of WHAT DAMN YOU!!) and lady cop 2 tells her its all destroyed except the mobile phone which was somehow hidden in a First Aid kit in one of the patrol cars. Right?!? Young cop runs off to find mobile phone, hotly pursued by plain clothes cop 1 and lady cop 2. Young cop finds phone and realises drug dealer had recorded himself being murdered by plain clothes cop 1 and lady cop 2. Time enough to hide a phone 3 floors down but not to delete the recording or jump up and down on it eh!?

Cut to roof. Young cop with phone and lady cop 2. ' YOU COULD JUST DROP IT OFF THE ROOF', says lady cop 2. Tears in young cops eyes as IPCA arrive in nick of time on roof. Young cop walks past lady cop 2 and says 'I'VE GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU' to IPCA before getting into lift. Cut to lift interior where IPCA officer says to young cop, 'WHAT YOU GONNA DO NOW YOU'VE ****** UP YOUR CAREER?' Fade to black.

It's now later and young cop has applied for a job at a glass company(?). Cue boss walking out of office and inviting her in to see plain clothes cop 2, still with 'GRASS' on his forehead sitting there. Big smiles all round 'I knew you were undercover (what? For a GLASS COMPANY?) Boss introduces herself as a Detective Superintendant with the ghost squad and gets young cop to sign secrets act thing and saying they have work to do.

NOW!

I don't know about you but i got very confused very quickly!

The murderers were Plain clothes cop 1 and lady cop 2. But lady cop 2 was with young cop from when she left interview room til when she went back inside!? How did she do it? And not a spot of blood on either of them even after the heavy beating they dished out!? And what was this secret everyone was scared of being grassed up about?

Now i know it's entertainment but come on, lets try to make it just a bit realistic. The plot had holes all through it and just didn't make sense. The cops just sat there when told they couldn't leave or make phone calls and didn't question it one bit.

It's a real shame because if you actually read up on the proper 'Ghost Squad' they did some good investigations and brought down some really bent cops in their time. Even the mysterious beginning about them being disbanded in 1998 but maybe still existing is poo, every force has internal complaints and discipline departments doing overt and covert work within its own and other forces.

I really worry that programmes like this and The Bill give such a false representation about the police that the general public just take it as read that we're all bent and would cover a murder up and all crimes are solved in an hour!

Sorry to ramble on but needed that out of my system!!!

Good 'entertainment' but as an ex 5-0 myself it was way off mark and could potentially serve to further alienate the public.

Talking

oh and lady cop 2 committed the terrible deed after their chat at the coffee machine which turned out to be out of order. Young lady cop goes to coffee machine on another floor and this is when the dirty deed is done (so no they were not together all the time)

I've still got it

I thought it was so poor that I turned off about halfway through. At least I was right about who the villains were ging to be though: those two looked so shady you could grow moss on them. But I also guessed that plain clothes male was the mystery boyfiend of the heroine, so I guess I was wrong there.

"Between the Lines" was vastly better (apart from the third series).

So she got a drink from a different vending machine eh? Guess that gives her murderer mate an extra minute or two to do the deed and get cleaned up!!

Like i said a real shame as i think a really good job could be done on this topic, just not by these guys!

Still think 'COPS' on BBC2 a few years ago is the closest yet to real policing, remember when they pushed the dead body with a stick so it went onto the neighbouring division and wasn't their problem Nice!!!
