Default Dental pain- which drugs?

Hi all,

I have a gum infection and am in a lot of pain. Paracetemol don't seem to work. Ibuprofane (sp?) work well but for a short period of time and you can only have 3 in 24 hours. Does any one have any reccomendations for effective painkillers (legal please )?

Cheers,

You can take Paracetomol and Ibupofen every 2 hours.

So:

Paracetomol at 9am/1pm/5pm/9pm
Ibuprofen 11am/3pm/7pm/11pm

Hello

Co-codamol (Paracetamol and Codeine) is my current drug of choice.

You'll need to ask your doctor/dentist to prescribe for you.
The one everyone used to use was Co-proxamol, but it's out of favour at the mo because of the risk of overdose, so no NEW scripts will be issued, although you can still get it if you use a repeat script.

The others all tend to be paracetamol/codeine mixtures, which I personally don't like, but there you go.

You can take paracetomal & codeine tablets(Co_Codomol), AND ibuprofen...I was a while agao as advised by my GP
Coz i can't remember how many you can take double check by ringing your local pharmacy - make sure you speak to the pharamacist tho!!

Try to eat b4 hand otherwise the codeine can make you as sick as a dog..!

And one of the side effects of codeine is constipation, so don't take too much

I used to find Co-proxamol very effective indeed, Pity they withdrew it. Haven;t tried the codine based drugs, heard they're evil on the stomach, and you don't really feel like eating when your choppers are killing you.

As do all other analgesics based on opiates. Morphine used to be given as a treatment for diarrhea in victorian times!

Another vote for co-codamol. GF is on 500mg/38mg for chronic pain and boy does it do the trick!

Having said that, I'm not a big fan of paracetamol or diclofenac (Voltarol I think?) - I doubt in today's harsher regulatory environment that drugs with such a narrow therapeutic window (area between a therapeutic and a toxic dose) would be approved for chronic administration.

afaik voltarol is not a pain killer as such, its more of a heavy duty ibruprofen aka anti inflamatory

the co,co,s are the best..

ive had 15/500 and this time 30/500 just realised how spaced out i have been now ive finished the course.... i dont keep nodding off mid senta..........................nce

diclofenac sodium is an anti inflamtory and can be taken with paracetamol, i was advised to take the diclofenac with 2x 500mg paracetamol 3 times daily, and before this was on 2x 500mg paracetamol and 1 x 600mg ibuprofen 3 times daily
