Happened to catch a bit of this and was so confused by the puzzle on screen that i taped the next days just to see the answer. However, after over two hours of people ringing with incorrect answers, nobody got it right until they gave away the first two digits and even then I'm assuming it was a guess! Just to drive me mad the presenter didn't explain why it was correct. There had been clues about thinking laterally (useful) and "think of how numbers are written" - WTF. I'm completely stumped but i know that the enormous throbbing brains on here can solve anything. Puzzle below, and the answer is 599, but why?!? (The interpretation in Paint is all my own )

They were on Watchdog this lot. Nobody can work out how they get the answers. A mathmatician was on and said on one puzzle there was at least 20 answers and they would have all been correct. They dont really explain how they get the answers. The conclusion was that they make the answers so difficult and weird people keep ringing so they get more revenue.

Ah! More or less what i thought - 75p per call and they only seem to take a call every ten minutes or so.

I know I should just let it go but i need to know that it's solvable! :

Probably been said, but I make it 244, as only 116, 16, 6 and 106 are numbers the rest are words.
