Question Can a 17 year old sign a legal document?

Or does it need to be countersigned by a parent/guardian?

Depends on the document - you can't sign a credit card application but you can sign a marriage certificate both are legal documents.

Cant see why not? but if its got something to do with finances it might have to be over looked by a parental guardian?

As far as I know if the document is regarding earning money or things that are required for him to live, ie food, rent, etc., he should be okay, although I seem to think once he hits 18 he can cancel the contract there and then.

Can't see why it wouldn't be binding if he signed it, surely it's no different to a contract of employment.

I do work with models, some of which are under 18. They cannot sign a model release for image publication, their parents/guardian have to do that.

In the eyes of the law, they are a minor until 18 with regards to that aspect. I would have thought it would be similar in the music business.

Cheers

Ian
