Pub/club suggestions for leicester square area
Can anybody suggest a good place in the London Leicester square / Covent garden area to spend time after dinner.
Myself and about 15 colleagues are off out for a bit of a jolly in London in a week or two starting with ice skating at the natural history museum, dinner at TGI Fridays in Covent Garden. We're a mixture of men and women, pretty much all in our early to mid twenties so need somewhere for a bit of a drink/dance to kill some time between say 10pm and the early hours.
Any suggestions most welcome
David

Scrap TGI's and go to Wagamama, just south of Covent Garden!
There's an All-Bar-One on Leicester square if you like that kind of pub, There's The Comedy Store on Oxendon Street, just of Leicester square.

How about a walk through town to the Cheers bar? On Regent Street, just of Picadilly Circus and right next to the Cafe Royal. Only about 10 mins walk from Leicester Sqaure and they have dancing till the small hours - lots of 70's/ 80's club classics stuff.
Pitchers of beer and cocktails and not over priced for London IMHO.
Enjoy!
(Edited to say SJ is right about Wagamamas! )

There is so much choice around central London! Your best bet is just go for a stroll and go in where looks good. I have been living here 3 years and everytime we go out we manage to have a good night playing it off the cuff. covent Garden is good for bars and pre nightclub drinks, I think Leicester square is a bit crap too mainstream and all the tourists! Some good bars in Soho if you get to the right parts some eccentric people around so watch out!

Surely if he's in the capital he'd prefer something slightly more cultured than a glorified McDonalds??
Loads of fantastic, small, family run eateries around Covent Garden.
As for pubs - christ, you can't miss them even with your eys closed. All the token chain bars, as well as better places within the square mile. Ask locals, or Police officers - they know best!!

Need more info, imho If you only go to London occasionally it seems a waste it with TGI Fridays and Leicester Square. Everything there is full of tourists and no different to what you could find in a night out somewhere else. eg. All Bar Scum TGI's etc. etc.
If I had to say somewhere there I would say Zoo Bar/Venom in Leicester Square
Fuel is quite good in Covent Garden as if you get there when there are still street performers there you can get a drink and go out on their balcony to watch whilst laughing at all the people squashed in in the Punch and Judy!
However if you can go somewhere else there are loads of better places depending on what you like and how much you are prepared to spend - give me some more clues and I will let you know - I have spent far too many nights out in Central London recently so know a few good places - always worth picking up a Time Out mag close to when you are going

SoSho is also good www.sosho3am.com
The Tabernacle (sp?) - restaurant, bar and club in one near old street (EC1?)
Lounge Lovers - EC1 I think? only go there if you are feeling particularly flush + not open that late compared to the others
Club wise - it really depends what music you like though Egg is a good venue if you like the music they are playing
So many options!!

ps If you do head east it can be hard to get a black cab sometimes so depends were you need to be and when

Thanks for all the info so far people The reason I mention the main touristy areas is that we need to be able to get a train home at the end of the night to Reading so didn't want to stray too far from the easy to reach areas but that may be an over cautious approach!

Well remember the tube shuts at about 12.30 from the west end and I wouldn't rely on a night bus!
So taxi is the only real option, its usually easier to get a taxi from the west end than old street shorditch etc.
You could always go to Fabric etc. as they are open till 6 i think and egg is open till the afternoon on a Sunday!!!
