Default 50" plasma question.

If i was to buy a 50" plasma tv,how far away would i have to sit to watch the screen comfortably?
Is there a general rule of thumb about screen size and viewing distance?

Ie..37"=??Ft
42"=??Ft
50"=??Ft

Cheers

The general rule is about 3 x screen size so for 50" about 12.5 feet

According to What Hi-Fi:

42-50" = over 4m
36-42" = 3-4m
28-32" = 2.5-3m
17-26" = under 2.5m

Just been on c net and it reckons that minimum viewing distance for a 50" plasma is 1.8 m.
is that right?Surely you would end up like Marty Feldman after not too long!!

MAX distance...3.8m...????

I would say that's way too close! Ive viewed pretty much all the different sizes of plasma - 37", 42", 50" and 65" and I would say personally about 10ft does the trick for 50".

Personally speaking I'd be more than happy with a 50" at 10ft so entirely a personal thing!

With regards to viewing, you're probably better off trying to find a local independant specialist to be honest. The plasma setups you'll see in the likes of Comet/Currys etc really won't give you an idea of what a screen is capable of.

There's the odd good place about depending on your location, might be worth asking over at www.avforums.com
