Personal plates aren't what they used to be. Mind you nothing is when it's made affordable by the masses.
Most now look complete shíte and should be made a hanging offence if used on the public highway.

I blame the DVLA, they say you cant space plates etc, but then try and flog you plates that would obviously need spacing to loko right
I prefer the dateless plates. Newreg have 205 FLY which I would like, but not for £3,695 or whatever it is

Initials are crap, they mean nothing to anyone who doesnt know what your full name is...
ONLY gte a PP if it spells your full name/car without the need to *******ise it..otherwise PPs look very lame..

Gutting thing is I nearly bought K3 LLY for my wife when it first came out and was on the DVLA website for £500 - I ummed and ahhhed then decided against it - also didnt buy M1 KEF for myself for the same price, which is even more annoying.
TBH, I think anything where you have to try and guess the name, or just has initials is a waste of time - half the plates you cant tell if they are private plates or not now, which seems to defeat the object.
I think proper private plates are OK ( for example, I was looking at getting 35 MF recently ) - the sort you only used to see on Rollers and top of the line Jags - but now every crap car out there has P43 TJF or something daft on it.
