Assuming that a) the seller isn't a rogue, b) your "bro's" DVD player is listed, and c) the player can in fact be hacked via its keypad, then yes. However, save yourself some beer tokens and see if you can find what you need for free on the internet. Here's a starting point;

Go to the Forums > Hacks area and have a sniff around.

Do a search on Google/Yahoo! for words like "sony multi region hack", maybe even include the exact model number if you can get it. They are usually available. Some makes are notoriously difficult (Sony often being one of them ) and require enormous codes to be input (50+ characters). These are best sorted by hiring a pre-programmed remote (usually IRO 20 quid plus a security deposit) or downloading the code and using a PDA with IR remote output. Of course, by far the easiest solution is to simply buy a pre-hacked player. Either replace your decent one with a hacked decent one, or just add a cheapy from Richers (20 quid or so) to supplement when alternative region discs are played.
