Default Any suggestions for a mini-DV camcorder ?

Normally I use my own still digital camera for 'my' pictures, and we've got another small 5MP camera for the family. However, we're off on a family holiday in India soon, and my wife would like us to get a camcorder.

Looking at a few reviews it seems there is a wide spectrum of capability, function and price.

Does anyone have any particular model that they'd suggest as good value for general family use ? The battery life and the storage options need to be good. In view of the recent rootkit revelations I'd be inclined to not get a Sony though...

Sony or Canon are the only real choices.

Id make sure that the model you buy is able to record from an external source too.

So far, from reading on places like SimplyDV, I'm leaning towards the Canon MVX350i. The MVX25i looks like it is discontinued...

And also make sure it's got DV-In, UK models didn't use to have this but I'm not sure now.
