Question Taxing your car and grace

Do you get any grace when taxing your car.

Just had the MOT done and it failed for a crack in the windscreen [about 15mm wide] but need the car fixed and taxed by Monday so not a lot of time to get the car mended, re-MOT'd and taxed.

strictly speaking there is no grace, your supposed to declare the vehicle off road, to be on the safe side, though not the 1sr till tuesday, so you might be ok by then.

Need to gat it taxed within the calander month it's due basically. But give them a ring see what they say. Basically, they're pretty helpful when I talked to them in the past.

But doesn't the system automatically issue a fine the first day it's not taxed?

Afterall they do give you plenty of notice to get it done

Was reading about this on Friday as I have bought 944s and need to get her taxed.

There is a 14 day grace period AFTER your tax expires, however, during this period the only legit reason for using your car on the road is to travel to and from a pre-arranged MOT. After the 14 days are up if the car is not declared as SORN DVLA can assume you are continuing to use the vehicle on the road and issue you with a fine.

Got me thinking, if you dont have an in-date MOT surely your insurance in null and void, so you are not insured to drive the car to the MOT garage....

I have bought tax up to 10 days after the the 1st of the month on several vehicles over the last couple of years, no fines yet!

Also had one of my vans stopped in one of the police road blocks they seem to be doing all over the country at the moment, tax was expired by seven days but the police said to my driver "I wont mention anything about your out of date tax"
