I POD INFORMATION?

I bought a 4gb Mini earlier this year and a Nano recently.
Althought the Nano holds pictures, the screen is too small and to be honest it doesn't sit as nicely in the hand as the Mini. I think it's just too small.
If he only wants it for music, I'd suggest a 6gb Mini.

Unless he's really into his music with a huge catalogue of cd's I doubt he'll need anything bigger than a 4GB ipod mini.

How much music does he have.
As a rough idea about what size player he'll need. say using 4mb per song average (depends on the bitrate and length of song, my estimate using 128k and 4 minute song length average).
50 albums, 500 songs, 2GB
100 albums, 1000 songs, 4GB
200 albums, 2000 songs, 20GB
400 albums, 4000 songs, 20GB
800 albums, 8000 songs, 40GB
800 albums, 8000 songs + photos etc. 60GB

I disagree with the nano comments, they're really cool - colour screen, photos etc.. (which counts when you're a kid ), for the mini I reckon here's the best price:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...793289-3963849
And in stock too - bonus.

However big the drive is you get - he will be needing a bigger one before long.

Course you can 'delete' and put different stuff on.
To me, the flexibility is the issue, so I go big so that anytime you can listen to any song anytime and it not be one of the songs 'you left at home'. Comes down to how much he's into his music and how much he'll use the thing.
Oh, and consider non iPod stuff as well, there's plenty of great alternatives.

No no, you can change the music on there as often as you like. i think for a teen 2 or 4GB will be enough, unless he is really into his music.
i have stupid amounts of music so need a 60GB really, nice to just be able to put every single cd you own in one place.
btw havent got one, cant afford it! one day!

What about the 4gb Nano: http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=s...C&title=735679
£179.99
That's plenty of space to keep him happy IMO.
It's cheaper at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...793289-3963849 (but I prefer Play, so i'd pay the extra £5 personally)

If you're only going to go for a couple of gig, consider something that uses memory cards instead. 1Gb memory cards are cheap as chips and it means he can carry a few with him and swap, gives more room for expansion etc and can be used for transferring data easily as well

A vote for the Mini. I bought it to go away on Holiday with, Sit round the pooll and the flight. I thought that once i got home it would end up in the draw and then in the bin, But no. I use it all the time now, Gone from the car is the clutter of the CD collection and in pops the Itrip. Fantastic peice of kit!

I got the 20 Gb Ipod and it was full up first time I connected to my PC with Itunes. I don't use my Ipod other than in the car connected to my head unit. It's really nice for when I've listened to all my CDs in the car, I can switch to the Ipod. Only trouble I found is finding all the song, or at least managing the folders.....
For a youngster I would have thought 2 Gb or 4 Gb would be fine
Cheers Phill

I have two sons one 9 and the other 13, i asked them to write their xmas lists out, the 13 yr old has about 2k worth of stuff on his list, the 9yr old has about 30quid says there's nothing he realy wants apart from a subaru transformer. Ahhhhhh bless
mine did spend MORE than they could afford though so bless em!
if your considering getting him a psp, might be worth bearing in mind you can store MP3's (and MP4's (videos)) on that.... and when you consider that 4gig duo memory cards will be around its a viable alternative....plus as mentioned before, he can always swap the memory cards around, like having unlimited storage!! well limited only by budget!
