Default Specialized cycle carriers

Hi folks,

Just bought myself a Specialized Enduro Expert mountain bike (for a rather good price ), but it appears that my old Thule roof carriers for the car roofrack no longer fit (the frame on the bike is too big / chunky, plus the frame tubing is square rather than round).

If anyone out there has one of these bikes and transports it on a roofrack, could you let me know what sort of carrier you use?

Thanks,
Iain

Thumbs up

I've had this problem trying to transport son's Orange ZerO trials bike, which has an odd-shaped hexagonal section downtube.

I've solved it in two ways: firstly using the original upright bike carrier, and clamping it as best I could, then reinforcing the hold with two crossed-over zipties around the frame and the clamp. It was fine. It went long distances at decent speeds

Recently, I've bought a Thule carrier in which you remove the bike's front wheel, and clamp the forks. Dead easy to use, rigid as owt, and the only drawback is that you need to find stowage for the wheel you removed.

HTH

I wondered about those, but to remove the front wheel on the specialized required an allen key (not all that quick). Might be the best option though...

Thanks,
Iain

Question

No quick release? If it's an odd fitting, it WON'T fit the type of rack I mentioned. The forks need to be pretty standard to fit, and some disc brakes don't either

I "think" it's a standard fitting, but it's not got a quick release lever. It's got an allen key connection instead (to improve stability across the front suspension when plummeting down mountainsides ).

I think I may try contacting Specialized to see what they recommend. Shame you can't try these carriers before you buy...

No it's probably got 20mm thru axle to increase fork rigidity, becoming quite common on these all-mountain / freeride type bikes. It probably won't work with the rack as standard, you will need an adapter of some sort e.g. http://www.bikeparts.com/ProductInfo...dapter557.html

I use the OEM Toyota rack for a Specialised Hardrock. Not great, and I needed to buy a longer length of studding so the pincers opened wide enough, but does the job. Thule were twice the price
