Default 360 deg Cameras.. on the Road !

While doing a healthy 70 mph down my local by-pass in Newport Pagnell I noticed...

2 Spyball cameras on lamp posts with antennas coming out the top of them.. these looked like security cameras and had the dome at the bottom with smoke effect plastic.. (there are some that spin 360 deg in 1 second!)

I have never seen these before anywhere on the open road especially with antennas coming out of them...

Any one got any ideas on them...

They are located on the Newport Pagnell by-pass between the football club roundabout and the roundabout leading to chicheley / North Crawley

No mate the blue ones are for Trafficmaster so i was told...

These are just like security cameras like they have in department stores with the smoked dome at the bottom.. you cant see where the camera is looking... obviously there is a signal being sent out somewhere via a radio link...

interesting to know why they are on a lamp post on a dual carridgeway though..

Bet its just CCTV for monitoring.

Not to say it's not linked to number plate recognition etc., but I doubt they're speed cameras.

I bet they are speedcams for aeroplanes then!

Got to pick a pocket or two.

The following is speculation as they have them on the M1.

Have a look on the road at the same point for Inductive loops - They are a black rectangles on the carriageway. These count the traffic and give traffic speeds (Not for enforcement purposes though - see below) and have to be linked to a system to verify their accuracy to a certain degree. The cameras are probably there to verify the accuracy of the loops.

They are usually located on roads where the contractor owns the road and gets paid for the throughput of traffic. They have to prove the throughput and also provide a visual verification - the cameras.

I see on my local teletext tonight that Dumfries & Galloway plods are the first in Scotland to introduce 360 degree MOBILE cameras. Their purpose is to catch bikers...

I wasn't joking as much as you might have thought.

In certain parts of Germany there is a speed limit for low flying aircraft and they do use radar traps to catch them!

The railways have had mobile radar speed traps for years now.

Ah come on

Percentage of vehicles on the road which are motorbikes?
Percentage of vehicles involved in fatalities which are motorbikes?
Percentage of said fatalities being one vehicle/lost control accidents?

It's not rocket science.

If ANY car manufacturer told the government that they intended producing a vehicle with no front number plate as one wouldn't fit, imagine the reaction? Would they get away with it?

No...and neither should motorcycle manufacturers.

The camera could well be for catching fly tippers etc. Alot of areas have signs up saying there's cctv monitoring. If the camera's up high then it could see a fair bit....
