Those f@ckin sh1tty new-style Cameras
Just a bit a bit of speed camera advise needed really.
obviously i know where the majority of the gatsos are nearish to where i live, but on my drive into work i use the M2 towards maidstone.
the b@stards have just stuck up some of the new monitoring cameras, i think there are 3 or 4 over a 5 mile(oe so) stretch of the motorway.
does anyone know how they work? i know they work on average speed, but is it a full average over all cameras, or are they taking 4 separate averages, and you could potentially get done 4 times in one go?
also does anyone know what a safe speed to go past them is? i presume 75 will be fine, but can you go faster?
sucks because at the moment they're doing major roadworks and the limit is 50!

I think they calculate your average from start to finish and at each point in between - If they only did it from start to finish they would not need the middle cameras.
Most cameras (in order to comply with ACPO guidelines) are set at 10% over the speed limit +2mph. Your speedo at 75 is probably 70 in reality. I would use a GPS to be sure though!!! In reality you should only get a ticket for travelling at 79mph. These cameras are also highly accurate with regards to speed calculations. I think their number plate capture rate is 97% per camera (dependent on weather).

Those would be SPECS cameras...info here http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/FAQs.htm
They work on average speed over the distance between the cameras, so stick to the speed limit until you pass the last one

yep i thought that was the point of those middle ones- b@stards!
i didn't know the speedos all over-read-> i thought my satnav was talking bollox when it reads 68 when my current car (til tomorrow ) reads 75.
anyone use that numberplate obscuring spray? has anyone been flashed and got away, or got in trouble for using it?
cheers

as you get to the first one, it tells the second one you have arrived and to start counting.
if you get to it before a certain amount of time it cleverly calculates how fast you are going.
the problem is that in some cases like the M77 glasgow-ayr, the cameras are not all active........
this means that if your going to fast and stop in the hard shoulder.....it doesnt work cos youll still roll into the next active one too soon.
the simple thing is to not speed at all on this stretch of the road.

Have they re-directed the roads around Kent within the last week or so since I was there? Every time I've been in Kent - and I lived there for 8-9 years - the M2 went past Chatham, and it was the M20 that went past Maidstone . . ..
