Question help me please!!

as if there wasnt enough happening in my life at the minute.

I have bought a camcorder of ebay, it arrived from them as described.

however!!

they charged me £12 for delivery which I thought was going to be for special delivery which is more expensive.

it arrived in a second hand box, unrecorded, with three sheets of cheap kitchen roll to protect the camera.

I asked them why the charge was so high, they said it was to cover their costs of shipping etc. I checked the price with royal mail for the weight of the parcel and standard delivery would have been a little over £4.50.

I asked them for a reciept of postage, they sent me a hand written statement for £12 from themselves

I rang them and confronted them on the charge, they said they were in bruges at the time, and they sent it from there, hence the price, however it stated on the auction the item was in essex, and they would use royal mail.

what would you do in regard to feedback, I cannot make my mind up so I want you to do it for me.

also do you have any ideas of how I should write the feedback.

just want to remind you the camera was perfect and 100% as described.

tia

James

James - with your luck at the moment, I'd lay off ebay for a bit

Charging higher postage than the actual cost seems to be common practice on ebay IMO. some people do take the pi$$ a bit though.

If the item is as described, works okay and you're happy with it I would leave positive feedback but you could maybe comment that the postage charge was a bit OTT.

Something like:

Item received as described - packaging & postage costs charged could have better

I'd not bother leaving anything 'til the last minute I'm pretty pi55ed off with the whole ebay thing at the moment and hardly use it at all these days.

they have already left a positive feedback on mine, so they cant leave me a negative for leaving them one.

so all options are open.

That's good then. If they don't offer you a reasonable explanation then leave them a negative, that's what it's there for.

I've seen an few ebay comment in regards to postage cost includes say driving into local post office, parking costs, time taken etc. But £12 is excessive if its as badly packed as you said.
Depending on the day I had I would lean to netural at best or negative !

thats what I keep thinking, but then I get a change of heart and think its only £7.50 is it neccessary?

I have had negs left on my account 4 times for stupid reasons so I know what its like, however they havent offered a refund, so I am inclined to leave a neg to warn others.......

cant make my mind up.

You got the Camera in 100% condition you knew the cost was £12

You have suffered no lose

If it was damaged in transit leave Neg

If it didn't arrive leave Neg

Otherwise whats the problem? Short Positive Feed Back " Goods as described "

All IMHO of course

I do agree with you phil, but the item also described the postage as royal mail, and item in the uk. it was neither of these.

imho the item cost more to send as they were away at the time, not my problem I am thinking. they should have described the item as being in bruges (I wouldnt have bid on it then) with the costs set at £12 I presumed it would be sent by special delivery royal mail. instead it was sent by an international mail, unrecorded, not insured, if it had gone missing, my guess is it would have been my loss!

I always put more than the postage cost. Reason. time to sort it out plus the material used to package said item. Although in this case it would be nothing.

Move on....

I'd stop moaning like a bitch over nothing and sort your life out. I really don't believe the mentality of some people, if that was me I would have been, 'oh look they ripped me off a bit with postage, good on em' and carried on with what I was doing that day. Feedback would be 'received the camera, all good A+'.

You knew the postage cost so wtf does it matter that it was sent from somewhere else?!?!?!

thanks for your opinion. however if I leave a negative feedback now, maybe it will make you stop and think about purchasing of this person next time, and maybe save you a few quid?

If I had wanted to donate £7.50 of my money to this person I would have put it in an envelope with the other payment saying happy birthday.

you have made my mind up for me cheers, negative it is.

It's for P&P. that can involve a drive in their car to post the parcel plus the materials used to send the item in. it's not just how much the royal mail charge.

I think negative is/was correct - too many people are happy to roll over and accept this type of thing. I'd be grateful to know to keep an eye out for excessive postage charges from the seller if i'd read your comment.

they used a second hand box and 3 pieces of cheap kitchen roll. so £7.48 for petrol costs! in that case he must post on here!

Must have had fuel surge on the way to the post office. It wasn't posted from Scotland was it?

Surely the purpose of leaving negative would be to let other buyers be aware of wrong descriptions, item different to expected, damaged, etc not that the p&p charged was higher than the actual cost of postage.

If I have an issue with the costs people are quoting for p&p I just don't bid. Did the description on the auction say it would be sent registered or special delivery or just be Royal Mail? The named options for postage do seem very limited if your a UK seller IMO.

I'm looking at MP3 players from sellers based in Honk Kong just now and they state delivery by Royal Mail!!!! They also charge a lot higher postage & insurance costs to keep the cost of the item down in the auction & reduce the risks of the buyer being hit with import duty.
