Lateral thought
I wanted to wash my engine bay down, did not have any Jizer or Gunk to hand.
I thought what could be used that was readily available.
So I used a dish washer tablet and mixed it up into a solution with water, brushed it on and hosed it off, cleaned it up a treat.
Anybody think of a reason why you should not have done it, after all it cleans the roast tin, and most of the dishwasher contains plastics and metals the same as the engine.
By the way this was on my old Rover, now sold
Should I do the Scooby next?
Anybody

No I did not put the engine in the dishwasher, think you might have missed the point. LOL
You put salt into the dish washer to soften the water, the tablets don’t contain the salt.
or am I wrong, perhaps I should lick one to find out

I used to take various bits of cars and bikes and bung them through the dishwasher to clean them - works a treat (until the wife comes home early) - the dishwasher tabs seem to be fairly abrasive though
